Rejoice, the Lord Is King, 140 (Tune: darwall's 148th) Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore; Jesus, the Savior, reigns, the God of truth and love; His kingdom cannot fail, He rules o’er earth and Heav’n, He sits at God’s right hand till all His foes submit, He all His foes shall quell, shall all our sins destroy, Rejoice in glorious hope! Jesus the Judge shall come, Draw Thou, My Soul O Christ, 284 (Tune: st. edmund)
Draw Thou my soul, O Christ, closer to Thine;
Breathe into every wish Thy will divine; Raised my low self above, won by Thy deathless love, Ever, O Christ, through mine let Thy life shine. Lead forth my soul, O Christ, one with Thine own, Not for myself alone may my prayer be;
O Jesus, I Have Promised, 307 (angel's story) O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end; O let me feel Thee near me! The world is ever near; O let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still, O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee O let me see Thy footprints, and in them plant mine own; Corporate Scripture Reading: #7; Psalm 27; Page 473 Sermon Title: "The Cost of Following Jesus" Rev. Michael Lashley, Pastor
Sermon Text: Luke 9:51-62 Samaritan Opposition51As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?" 55But Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56and they went to another village.The Cost of Following Jesus57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."58Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." 59He said to
another man, "Follow me." 60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family." 62Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
